I'd like to invite all creative professionals in Northern Colorado to what I hope will be the first of many happy hour gatherings. There is no other agenda for this event but to spend time socializing with each other. No sales pitches, no presentations, no obligatory business card exchanges...just having some fun in each other's company. You'll have the chance to meet the proprietor of the Backyard Tap, Zedrick Brooks. He's created a lovely indoor/outdoor gathering place right in the heart of Loveland. He's interested in making it available for special events like parties, club meetings, classes, paint n' sip events and any other kind of gathering you might want to host. There will be drink specials and a food truck, and we'll have time to make the rounds to sit and chat while enjoying a beautiful space on a hopefully beautiful almost Fall evening. When Curt Bear left a 15 year banking career to start his own food business he created a peer advisory group to help him make the the transition from the corporate world to the entrepreneurial. I was asked a great question in the Podcasting for Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Fort Collins Startup Week the other day. It was pointed out that the three case studies I'd used in the presentation were all hosted by white males, and the question that followed was "are there any podcasts you can recommend that are hosted by women or people of color?" Right off the bat I went blank and could only think of a couple, but I remembered more as the day went on and since then. I thought I'd make a list of the ones I've enjoyed most frequently: Marketing School Podcast with Neil Patel and Eric Siu - Daily marketing insights and strategies. These guys breathe this stuff. In 2012, decathlete Chris Helwick retired from professional track and field after a successful career. In both the 2008 and 2012 Olympic trials he had placed in the top 10 finalists, needing to be in the top three to compete in the Olympics. After retiring he tried his hand at business, and took some time to travel, eventually returning to his Colorado hometown. A random comment from an acquaintance led to a strange sequence of events. 100 Ways is a brainstorming exercise that use for myself and with clients to help generate ideas beyond those that are obvious. I find brainstorming for a designated length of time distracting because I get concerned about time running out and I don't focus on generating ideas. 100 ways is simple. Set a specific goal at t eh top of the page, and then write down 100 ways to attain that goal, with no regard for how long it takes to get to 100. Want to find a way to make $5000? Write down 100 ways and you'll probably find more than one way you can attain that goal. Some of your ideas will surprise you. Here's a simple worksheet that you can use.

A couple of weeks ago I was presenting a workshop in which I was talking about my recent experiences with email. The gist of the story is that a few months ago, after getting tired of the vitriol in many online exchanges, I wanted to bring a more uplifting message to people. I started a weekly email message, now called Inbox Encouragement. I was telling the group about how I was seeing open and click through rates that were the highest I'd ever seen. Open rates as high as 80% and click through rates ranging from 25-45%. At one point in the discussion I was asked if I had any idea of any of the clicks were converting. In sales language that
